Havoc Sweep the Storm in a Two Game Series Feb 6 and Feb 7
It was a sweet sweep for the Huntsville Havoc for Parent’s Weekend, as the Havoc contained the Quad City Storm for two straight games.
Friday, February 6
Starting Friday, February 6, the Havoc won 5-2. Matt Allen opened the Havoc scoring with 1:26 left in the first period, assisted by Dominick Procopio and Ben Schultheis, giving Huntsville a 1–0 lead.
Havoc would control the tempo for the entire second period. At 17:09 in the second period, Frank Trazzera made it 2–0, finishing a setup from Matt Allen and Kevin Weaver-Vitale. The Havoc would continue the pressure and just 26 seconds later, Austin Alger buried a quick answered goal, assisted by Cole Golka and Gio Procopio. A final third goal late in the third by Gio Procopio with assists by Austin Alger and Josh Kestner would send the period into a close with Havoc leading 4-0.
Quad City finally found their place on the score board with two goals in the third period. Quad City also saw a goalie change in the third. With Josh Rosenszweig. However, the Havoc would continue a strong pressure in the defensive zone holding Quad City to just those two goals for the entire evening. A final goal by Cole Golka with assists from Kevin Weaver-Vitale and Gio Procopio sealed the win in the first of two games for the weekend.
Quad City’s goaltender Zane Steeves allowed two goals on 30 shots, Josh Rosenszweig saved 11 out of 12 shots. Huntsville’s Brian Wilson stopped 35 of 37 shots to post a .938 save percentage of his own.
Saturday February 7
It was starting night goalie Dysen Skinner, who was a standout in helping Havoc secure a 4-2 win.
Quad City placed early pressure on the Havoc, scoring at 3:24 and again at 14:40 in the first to take a 2–0 lead.
Despite being shorthanded on a hooking call, Huntsville flipped the momentum when Josh Kestner was awarded a penalty shot and buried it for a short‑handed goal, cutting the deficit to 2–1.
Though a pretty defensive deadlock in the second period, Austin Alger, assisted by Cole Golka, tied the game 2–2.
Havoc would also control the third period with a goal by Gio Procopio assisted by Cole Golka and Austin Alger and then a game sealer goal by Alger with another assist by Golka.
In goaltending, Skinner went 30 for 32 on the evening with Steeve’s going 25 for 29.
In a post game interview with the Havoc Media Team, Head Coach Stu Stefan praised some of Skinner’s big saves on the evening.
“Timely saves are the biggest thing for goalie and I think he {Skinner} provided that tonight,” said Stefan.
